PhD defense and thesis publication: Co-creation for transdisciplinarity – Adoption of participatory design and agile project management in collaborative research processes

After an exciting and intense journey that started in early 2016, I finally defended my thesis dissertation last 3rd of December 2019 at the Sala Josep Laporte of the main headquarters of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. It was a great day and challenging session where I had the privilege to count with Mario Pérez Montoro (Universitat de Barcelona), Isabel Ruiz-Mallén (IN3-UOC) and Joan Subirats (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) as defense committee, as well as a great audience of family, friends and colleagues for such a special moment).

Here’s a short summary video (mainly in Spanish and Catalan) recorded by my great journalist cousin JA Hidalgo! I was also glad to have my PhD director and friend Mayo Fuster joining the discussion, as well as with the support in the distance from my other two co-directors, Josep Perelló (Universitat de Barcelona) and Laura Forlano (Illinois Institute of Technology).

Evaluated as excellent Cum Laude, and following the same open principles which I have tried to apply all over the PhD process and publications, below I share the final dissertation manuscript under a copyleft license, which includes the compendium of derived publications (all referred in this blog) as well as an annex with one of the versions of research co-creation toolkit I developed in parallel.

Recently, there was also a detailed blogpost published on the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute 3 referring to the dissertation, describing my dissertation main focus, methodology and results, which I think is a good starting point for reading this PhD work.
